Memphis!

We left beautiful Tellico Reservoir about 7:15 this morning and promptly crossed into the central time zone making it 6:15 AM.  The good news is Shoney’s breakfast buffet is open and hot at 7 AM.  Along I 40 we passed a serious truck accident in the opposite lanes involving at least three trucks, two of which ended in the median, but I think everyone was more or less ok.  One truck was mostly destroyed, but I could see the driver’s area was still amazingly intact.  If he had his seatbelt on he was ok.  I posted a pic on Mom’s facebook page.

We arrived in Memphis at the Graceland RV park around 2 PM CST.  The receptionist was surprised we didn’t want information about Graceland, since it is right next door and the CG is part of the compound, right behind the Heartbreak Hotel.  Really.  I explained we had toured it the last time we were here.  After resting a bit and a dip in the pool ‘cause it was 92 degrees and humid, we went downtown to Beale Street.  We ate at Miss Polly’s Soul City Cafe.  Mom had chicken, I had a catfish sandwich.  Yum. We stopped in a couple of Blues places  and also found a place with a big  band and singers that were doing 40’s music, so we got to dance a bit.  It was sort of open mike / jam session jazz and big band.  The beer is good, the weather is good, the food is good, the music is good, Life is good.
Mr. Handy's Blues Cafe (Juke Joint - no food, bathrooms next door)
Closest we got to Mass today
Second place in two days with greasy floors - one pork, one chicken
Alfred's - #1 dance club on Beale St.
Beale at night
