Yesterday was forecast to be rainy, so we went to Luray
Caverns. We figured they should be dry,
and we were right. The caves are
fascinating, and I found that if we got the bonus card from the local food
chain we could get $5 off each admission.
Heaven! There is also an antique
wagon and car museum housing some very interesting vehicles. There are also some outdoor attractions, but
it was raining, so we had a good pulled pork sandwich in the café and
started back to the campground. Instead of the interstate we drove some
alternate routes. On the way to the
caves we went to Front Royal first (to get the discount card, then to Luray. On the way back we went to Rt 11 and north
through some of the historic towns, the names of which sounded familiar – Edinburg , Woodstock , and of
course we’re camped in Middletown . When we got back to the camper I stepped on
wet carpet by the front closet. A bit of
exploration found a stream coming down the wall by the TV. Up on the roof I found an inch long rip in
the roofing, of course right in the path of the water draining from the
roof. A little silicone fixed that, but
it will be a few days of wet carpet and fans.
After getting cleaned up we went to Leesburg , VA.
to meet Pat and Joe for dinner. After a
driving tour of another historic town we met for dinner and conversation. A very enjoyable evening.
Today we’re driving to near Knoxville , Tennessee
to campground on a reservoir. The main reason for this location is the
proximity to “The best bacon in the world”, according to someone Mom met. Hopefully we’ll get there before they close.
